Check out my post on how to get started with Scripture memory, and my printable cards with Scripture from Catholic prayers and the Mass. The memorization is valuable, and life long.

  • Memorize Scripture!!! I had a killer memory as a kid, and although I never memorized Scripture references, what I do know can be accessed and pop into my head at exactly the right time.
  • We just read for a few minutes, then the kids ask questions. I started right at the beginning of Matthew. Songs that aren’t annoying are also a plus (though a rarity when it comes to children’s music). The best kids’ songs are the ones parents and kids can both sing easily even if no one in the family has the talent to turn it into anything other than a hobby. Singing songs with your kids is a great way keep the family entertained, whether or not it actually sounds good. The family armed with an arsenal of catchy, classic kids’ songs need not fear the long road trip or interminable snow day.
